Sought after GPO "Bell On Bell Off" model
This telephone has been totally stripped down and rebuilt after each part has been cleaned and polished. It has the correct internal switching unit and is fully wired up to work correctly. The handset is dated 1948. This telephone has a GPO No12 with an enamel alpha numeric face. The writing on this are very clear and unfaded however it has some enamel chipped on the inside as can be seen in the photograph. I prefer things to be kept original if possible and so if you would rather a perfect plastic replacement add that in the comments when purchasing. The dial has been set up using a special line simulator to make sure it will work on both cable and copper wire networks. It has been tested on our own BT line to make sure it is working perfectly. As you can see this is a very nice example of a very sought after telephone. I have fitted a very best quality hand plaited British manufactured braided handset cord. I have fitted an electronic microphone and best quality d shape plastic line in with a UK telephone plug socket. Please note that these are genuine GPO telephones from the 1930-50s and although I restore to the highest of standards they have been in use for over 60 years and can never be described as mint. The bell on bell off buttons are fully working and wired up through the original mechanical internal switch mechanism. I can make a dial label with your information at no extra charge. If using this as a main telephone to dial out and recieve I would reccomend having the internal pulse to tone unit fitted. Most providers are going over to Voip and it is possible that dial telephones may not be able to dial out when this happens. This unit will ensure it will still work when the change over happens.
