This is a Genuine GPO 328L with drawer. It is one of the earliest dated 1938 and made from an early Acrylic trade name Diakon or commonly referred to as “D” material. This one is totally original and marked 1938 on the handset and internally. The base plate is unmarked and with a black cord protector to the rear which was very common on these early red 300 series telephones. This is one of the most desirable collectors telephone having the bell on bell of buttons. This telephone has had a lovely life sitting in a nice sunny spot in the house. Unfortunately this has given it a nice shade of deep pink. It also has some damage which includes a couple of small chips to the left front but nothing else to body. The mouthpiece has been repaired not very well as can be seen in the final picture. The telephone has been totally stripped down and rebuilt and fitted with an electronic microphone and a GPO specification round plastic line in. It has been fully tested to work perfectly to both dial out and receive perfectly. It retains its original handset cord in very good condition. This would sell for £950 plus if mint perfect and so is a bargain at £350 and means you can use it as your everyday telephone without having to be too precious about it.
