GPO Black 1/232 on a No26 bell set with rare mirror drawer

This is a wonderful black GPO 1/232L with drawer. It has been totally stripped down and rebuilt after each part has been cleaned and polished. The handset is dated 1951 and it has a lovely GPO No10 with a very rare enamel alpha numeric dial face in wonderful condition. It has been fitted with a best quality hand plaited reproduction all British manufactured braided handset cord and a GPO specification round plastic line in cord with a UK telephone socket fitting. It is fitted with an electronic microphone to bring the speech quality up to modern standards. The dial has then been oiled and set up to the correct speed and the contacts adjusted to operate correctly. To do this properly it has been set up on a special line simulator test unit until it met the requirements of the machine.

Please note all providers including BT are moving over to systems that will not allow pulse dialling and so if wanting it to dial out now or in the future a pulse to tone unit will be essential.

I can fit a dial label with your information at no extra charge.

The GPO never added drawer bases to to 200 series telephones. They were designed to have plain bases and if you wanted a drawer then a 300 series was provided. This meant that using the original bellset screws and the 200 series base was not designed for this use. I had none standard bellset screws made without the counter sink but still meant it was badly located and only hanging on a few turns of screw. I devised my own way to prevent distortion of the base so that is won't rock or damage the base over time. This was not a money saving effort but a better way in my oppinion that trying to us the genuine parts not designed for the job.
