This is a very nice example of a GPO 221 wooden wall telephone. I have totally stripped this telephone down and removed all the metal work. The woodwork has been re painted over the original black paint as it was getting a little tatty. The dial was stripped down completely back to its component parts. All these parts were cleaned and in some cases polished to make sure that everything slides over each other correctly. This model was as far as I know always made from converting either a GPO 121 as this one was or an earlier model such as a 101. Originally started life as a GPO 121CB and later modernised by the GPO to a GPO 221 for use. As you can see the original screw holes that held the transmitter on can be seen faintly even though painted black by the GPO to disguise this. The dial is a GPO No10 enamel number face. This is a lovely example and has not been stripped by me and just waxed and cleaned. I have fitted it with a very best quality four way brown braided handset cord, an electronic microphone and a best quality black plastic D shaped line in cord with a UK telephone plug socket.
