Bargain telephone with beautiful patina.
This is a lovely example of an early GPO telephone. It has been totally stripped down and re built after each part has been cleaned and polished. It has been upgraded with a GPO 232 internals and so works beautifully. I have fitted it with a very best quality hand plaited braided handset cord, a GPO specification round plastic ivory line in cord and an electronic microphone. I have also fitted a small internal mechanical bell which give a very nice gentle ring. Not very loud and so ideal for a bedroom or use in conjunction with other telephones. As you can see from the detailed pictures it has a wonderful patina with some light staining to the rear top and other slight imperfections in the Diakon material. I promise you it looks fantastic for not being perfect and a fraction of the price of a perfect one. No cracks or chips or scratches. The base is an early one dated 1934 and engraved into the base which is quite unusual. The handset is dated 1938 Diakon as is the cradle "T" bar and body. The base is Urea Formaldehyde a thermo setting material and Diakon being an early Acrylic injection moulded material. I honestly love this little telephone and hope it finds a good home to live in. I can make a dial label with your information at no extra charge.
